Hi fellow Savage Riders,

I have been on vacation for the past month (traveling with
family by cage). When I got home yesterday, I fired up the
bike and took a ride. Man, it felt great! While riding
to work this morning I realized how improved the Savage
is since I let her breathe. A lot of people on this page
complain about not enough power or sound or are afraid to
accomplish the modifications. I welded on an after market
Cobra pipe not even designed for the Savage. Then I went
to a bike dealer and bought a main jet (two sizes bigger) and
then removed the white spacer. Some have written on this
page that removing the spacer makes the bike run too rich.
I'm hear to tell you that it made the biggest difference in
improvement. The factory sets the Savage way to lean, therefore,
not enough gas burns in the cylinder to make enough power. Just
remove your plug sometime after a long ride and it will
show you because it will be white from being too hot (lean). By
removing the spacer, you allow more gas which means a more powerfull
explosion in the cylinder which means more power to the rear wheel.
I have noticeably more accelleration and cruising speed is
now 70mph instead of 63 or 64mph. The only compromise is
gas mileage. I was getting 60, now its 50.
One more thing! I now have almost 34 K on the bike and it's still
running strong! I have been running synthetic blend motor oil
since 12K. I believe in it. Keep that oil level up at all times.
These Savages can really dry up in the cylinder head it the level
is not constantly maintained which leads to premature cam/chain/sprocket
and piston/ring wear. Ride safe everyone!
